Happy Birthday Crawford Williamson Long


Crawford Williamson Long was born on November 1, 1815 and passed away June 16, 1878.  Crawford Long was a man who made a difference in our world.  He is known to be the first man to use an ether-based anesthesia.  On March 30, 1842, Long used ether to remove a tumor from the neck of a patient.  He used ether during childbirth and amputation as well.  This discovery in medicine can be considered a “revolution”.  Crawford Williamson Long saved many patients from pain with his discovery.
